Day of Celebration and Action at Westminister!
On 5 November 2025, Mala Naicker – Steering Group member of the Lambeth Food Partnership – attended the Sustainable Food Places Day of Celebration and Action at Westminster. Over 60 community food leaders joined MPs, civil servants and NGOs to explore how local food partnerships are transforming health, tackling food insecurity and strengthening local economies.
The event showcases the UK-wide movement of food partnerships, now established in 123+ local areas comprising over a third of the UK’s population, the message was clear: local food works. From getting locally grown produce into schools to supporting dignified, cash-first responses to food insecurity, communities are already leading the way.
“It’s transformative what can be done with two acres. If we can do this in Carmarthenshire, we can do this across the UK.”
For Lambeth, this reinforces the power of partnership — community growing, food access, skills and policy working together.
Call to action for MPs:
Support Lambeth Food Partnership by visiting local food projects, championing auto-enrolment for Healthy Start and Free School Meals, and backing policies that help healthy, sustainable food businesses thrive.
